Wow, what a fun week it has been. I never knew that putting together something that is purely your idea and for you own enjoyment (the site concept, not the content) could be so much fun. No stakeholders telling you what to do, no marketing guy telling you to do x, y, z different. Just me and my ideas.
Anyway, first I would like to say thanks to everyone that has emailed, IM'ed or tweeted (that a word???) me their sign of support. Your support re-affirms what I thought was true, that there is a need for something like this.
I would like to kinda set the ground work for what I hope to be a long shelf life of the site and also set expectations.
Release Frequency:
The question has popped up a few times on how often I plan on putting out new content. As of right now I plan to do drops on Tuesday/Thursday. Maybe from time to time I will do a drop on other days.
However, if/when I get other authors to lend a hand (more on that below), I will not hold back their content to meet my frequency. Their content will be in addition to my content drops.
Authors/Presenters:
Am I going to be the only one creating content? No. I have already lined up 2-3 people that are going to contribute (look for their content in the coming months).
Am I going to allow for anyone to create content? Not exactly. If you are interested in creating content please let me know and we can see if we can work something out. The intent of the site is NOT to turn into a YouTube for developers as I do not have the time, money or bandwidth to support that.
Content:
What type of content am I (the site) going to produce? That is an open ended question, but my assumption would be that 99% of the content would be targeted to the .Net developers. This could range from simple intros on a topic/tool all the way to Jedi level knowledge on a given topic.
Some Stats from the first week (via IIS logs):
Total # of Page Views: 32,000+
Total # of Visits: 24,500+
Total # of Hits: 130,500+
Total # of Gigs Transferred: 23.5+
BTW, Best tweet of the week 'Watching a couple of DimeCasts.Net episodes on the 42" TV through the 360. I think I need to develop on a 42" TV from now on.' -- RossCode
